Considered as the most well-paying job throughout the world, a person having MBBS degree is easily absorbed in public or private hospitals. Though a doctor in medical profession is highly paid and well respected, but he/she is awfully busy and most of the time is spent in the devotion to the patient. This profession is very lucrative but only those students should join it who have patience, love for humanity and devotion.
Lakhs of aspirants appear in these examinations but only few thousands are lucky to be selected. After being selected, a student has to spend four-and-a-half years to get through but he has to do one more year of internship, making the course 5.5 years. On completing MBBS, a doctor can opt for postgraduate level studies (MD / MS) through one more entrance. In the post-graduate level, students can specialize in medicine as well as surgery. Post-graduate curriculum (MD / MS) is typically of a duration of 3 years.
Minimum qualifications to appear for MBBS course is 10 + 2 with physics, chemistry and biology subjects from a recognized board. The entry in this medical field is not easy. The competition is very tough. Some competitions are held at all-India level and some at state level. A brief description is given below:

(1) AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi):
It was established in 1952. There are total 50 seats for which about 80,000 students compete from all over India.
(2) AIPMT:
CBSE conducts All India Pre-Medical/Pre Dental Entrance Examination to select candidates for 15% merit positions in medical and dental colleges all over India.
(3) NEET/AFMC:
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is conducted by CBSE for admission to MBBS and dental courses in each academic year. Admission to various institutes like Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), etc., is through the merit score in NEET.
(4) DPMT (Delhi University Pre-Medical Test):
is a national level entrance test conducted by Delhi University to select students for admission to MBBS and BDS courses offered by various medical colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi).
(5) CMC (Christian Medical College):
Common Entrance Test for admission to 60 seats for MBBS degree in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. It is affiliated to Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai. The exam is generally conducted in the second week of May.
(6) JIPMER:
Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry
(7) COMEDK:
Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka
(8) GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test):
is a state-level exam conducted by the Education Department, Government of Gujarat. It is open for the candidates who belong to the state of Gujarat.
(9) PMET:
(Punjab Medical Entrance Test) is conducted in the second week of May for admission to various medical, dental, Ayurvedic and homoeopathic colleges in Punjab.
(10) BHU-PMT:
(Benares Hindu University All India PMT), held annually for admission to undergraduate medical courses of Benares Hindu University like MBBS, BDS, BAMS and B.Pharm. Out of 150 seats, the break-up is 84 seats in MBBS, 38 in BDS and 33 in B.Pharm.
(11) KMC
Admissions are done on the basis of rank in the All India Manipal University Online Entrance Test for MBBS, BDS, MD, MS, MDS, PG Diploma aspirants. MBBS, MD, MS and PG Medical.
(12) Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Vardha:
Total available seats: 65 which may increase to 100 seats in the near future. Of the 65, 33 seats are reserved for Maharashtra students and remaining can be filled by other state students.
