Forensic Sciences or Forensics is a very wide branch of science which basically deals with scientific support and services to the investigation of crime. But this is not the only function of Forensics. It covers other fields such as astronomy, archaeology, biology, and geology to investigate ancient times including identification of skeletonized human or animals remains. The specialists in this field analyze and investigate the elements like dead bodies and tissues, to find out the identities of such elements employing modem technologies. It is a sort of research work that is performed in the laboratories.
The range of topics in forensics covers almost all the subjects including computational forensics, ballistics, firearms and tool mark examinations, and other evidences in criminal investigations, medicine, pathology, toxicology, profiling, imaging, policing, anthropology, archaeology, entomology, genetics, digital forensics, forensic chemistry, forensic dactyloscopy (the study of fingerprints), forensic engineering, forensic geophysics, forensic meteorology, forensic limnology (the analysis of evidence collected from crime scenes), forensic odontology (study of teeth), forensic podiatry (the study of feet footprint), forensic toxicology, and many other fields.
